The Wealth You Build

A Lifetime of Financial Wisdom

After nearly forty years in accounting and finance, I left corporate life at sixty-one with something more valuable than a title or a paycheck: the freedom to choose what came next. Since then, people have repeatedly asked me how I did it. This book is my answer.

A Note to Readers

Why This Website Exists

Nearly forty years in accounting and corporate finance taught me much of what I know, and books written by people I never met taught me much of the rest. Those authors had no idea who I was. They wrote anyway, and their thinking shaped decisions I made throughout my career and life.

What I have learned comes from both: hard-earned experience and the wisdom of people who took the time to write things down. This website is my attempt to pass some of it forward.

The young accountants who reach out to me are a large part of the reason it exists. Their questions are often the same ones I was asking at their age, and answering them has been as meaningful to me as I hope it has been helpful to them.

What you will find here is what I have gathered about living a meaningful life, developing financial wisdom, strengthening families, and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. It is my way of giving back to the community and family that have given me so much. Everything here is freely offered, and nothing is intended to sell you anything.

If a book, an essay, or even a single idea helps you make a wiser decision, handle money more thoughtfully, strengthen a relationship, or see your own life a little more clearly, then this website will have accomplished what it was created to do.

About

Nearly forty years in corporate finance. A second act built on purpose.

Jimmy T. Singh, CPA, spent his career in healthcare finance, rising to Corporate Controller and later Divisional Controller at VNS Health, one of the largest not-for-profit home and community-based healthcare organizations in the United States. He left corporate life at sixty-one, not in retreat, but in deliberate reinvention.

Today he writes, consults, manages his personal investments, and mentors young accounting professionals, sharing what four decades in finance taught him about discipline, options, and building a life on purpose rather than by accident.

“Success is not determined by where one begins, but by the values, choices, and perseverance that shape the life one ultimately builds.”
The Books

Four pillars, one body of work

Each book stands on its own. Together, they trace a single argument: that a good life is built, deliberately, one choice at a time.

Pillar I · Story
A Life Well Lived book cover

A Life Well Lived
From a Small Village to a Life of Purpose, Success, and Love

Published 2026

From a small village to a life of purpose, success, and love — a memoir of immigration, discipline, and the choices that build a meaningful life.

From the Book

"Sixty-five years. When I hold that number... and think about everything it contains, the village, the ocean crossing, the early mornings, the boardrooms, the losses, the celebrations, the grandson on my knee, I find that what I feel most, above everything else, is gratitude."

— from "A Reflection at Sixty-Five"

Pillar II · Philosophy
Everything Was Built book cover

Everything Was Built

Forthcoming · Spring 2027

Fifteen chapters on the principles behind a well-built life — the discipline, character, and intention required before results ever show.

Sneak Preview · Ch. 1

"The field is not the game. Your circumstances are the ground you start on. Your choices are the game you play... The difference was never talent alone. It was rarely luck alone. More often than not, it was something quieter: a refusal to accept that their beginning would also be their ending."

— from "Where You Begin Does Not Define You"

Pillar III · Wisdom
What the Years Have Taught Me book cover

What the Years Have Taught Me

Forthcoming · Fall 2027

One hundred reflections for living well — short, direct lessons drawn from decades of experience in work, family, and purpose.

Sneak Preview · Reflection 51

"Legacy is not built at the end. It is built now, in the choices made today, the habits practiced consistently, the values demonstrated in ordinary moments when no one is keeping score."

— from "Legacy"

Pillar IV · Financial Legacy
The Wealth You Build book cover

The Wealth You Build

Kindle available now · Paperback September 7

Neither a memoir nor a theoretical guide, but a practical guide built from a lifetime of real financial decisions: the habits that build financial security, the protections that preserve it, the strategies that support retirement, and the legacy that outlasts it all.
